Chair, Department of Dermatology & Cutaneous Biology
Thomas Jefferson University seeks a collaborative and engaging academic physician leader to serve as the next Chair of the Department of Dermatology & Cutaneous Biology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College, located on the University’s 13-acre campus in Center City Philadelphia.
Reporting to the Dean of Sidney Kimmel Medical College, the Chair will oversee all departmental programs, including an ACGME-accredited Dermatology residency and Dermatopathology fellowship, ensuring outstanding education, clinical training, and research opportunities for the Department’s residents and fellows, as well as students at the Medical College.
The Chair will oversee a growing academic practice and will ensure exceptional care is provided at the Department’s 3 outpatient offices and Thomas Jefferson University Hospital – Jefferson Health’s flagship quaternary care hospital and the University’s primary teaching hospital. The Department’s academic practice includes 11 clinical faculty, 3 advanced practice providers, 13 residents and fellows, and 2 histotechnologists.
Additionally, the successful candidate will play a key strategic role in “driving systemness” for the University’s health system partner – Jefferson Health, which has grown from a three-hospital, urban academic medical center to a network of 32 hospitals, comprised of both employed and independent physician practices contractually-aligned with Jefferson. In line with Jefferson’s commitment to providing enhanced access to value-based care, the Chair will pursue strategic opportunities to effectively scale the value proposition of a growing system, while ensuring the delivery of high-quality care, aligned with network standards and expected by Jefferson patients.

An academic career trajectory with increasing levels of administrative responsibilities, ideally culminating in serving as Chair, Vice Chair, Chief or other senior leadership role for a Department of Dermatology.
- A demonstrated ability to advance tripartite clinical, education, and research missions – including a strong record of teaching and program administration; leading care quality improvement initiatives; supporting the growth, development, mentorship, and well-being of faculty, clinicians, and trainees; and facilitating research with a working understanding of the supporting infrastructure and nuances of clinical research.
- Experience with the operational and financial management aspects of administering a department, including prior responsibilities for budget management, strategic planning, and resource management.
- A record of scholarship and academic accomplishments which merits appointment at the rank of associate or full professor at Sidney Kimmel Medical College.
- An MD/DO or equivalent international degree, current board certification in Dermatology, and licensed or eligible to practice in the state of Pennsylvania.

Histology Technician
We are looking for a full-time Histology Technician who would like to join a fast-paced Pathology Lab. You will play a crucial role in the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual looking for long term employment and growth. Candidate must be enthusiastic, self-motivated, and dedicated. Experience in dermatology is helpful but not necessary. Modernizing Medicine & EZDERM experience is a plus.
Histotechnologist Responsibilities & Duties:
- Ascension specimens.
- Process and prepare tissue samples for examination.
- Receiving, grossing, and fixing tissue samples from various sources.
- Embed tissues in paraffin for sectioning.
- Cut thin sections of tissue for microscopic examination.
- Stain tissue samples using various techniques to enhance visibility under a microscope.
- Mount tissues on glass slides for analysis.
- Perform quality control checks on prepared samples.
- Ensure accuracy and adherence to laboratory standards.
- Maintain and calibrating laboratory equipment.
- Document all procedures and maintaining accurate records.
- Recording information about specimens in laboratory information systems.
- Create laboratory protocols.
- Follow laboratory safety protocols and procedures.
- Assist pathologists with special staining techniques.
- Manage laboratory supplies and inventory.
- Operating and maintaining laboratory equipment like microtomes, tissue processors, and automated staining machines.
- Participate in laboratory continuing education and training programs.
- Maintain certification of lab – ensure compliance with safety, quality and regulatory standards.

- Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).
- Florida License.
- Experience with immunohistochemistry techniques.
- Proficiency with laboratory information systems.
- Advanced knowledge of tissue processing and embedding.
- Strong organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented and high degree of accuracy.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience in a clinical or research laboratory setting.
- Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Histotechnology or related field.
- At least 1-2 years of experience in histotechnology.
